Community Involvement

Northwestern Mutual is the largest domestic direct writer of life insurance. They manufacture life insurance, disability insurance, long term care insurance, and annuities. Northwestern Mutual owns Northwestern Mutual Investment Services which is a distribution platform for a variety of investment products covering a wide spectrum. Depending on the needs of our clients, we tailor the recommendation and implementation. We try to put ourselves in the client’s shoes so that we can make the best recommendations and decisions in an effort to further our desire for long term mutually beneficial relationships. Below is a list of questions and answers that have been of interest to clients in the past:

Q: Will my financial planner take time to understand my objectives?
A: If I’m a good listener, and seek to understand first, I have a chance of accurately meeting your objectives.

Q: Will my financial planner give me options?
A: Some of us are aligned with a particular company (like I am). One could argue we lack objectivity. I have concluded that although my opinions are mostly best kept to myself, I do have them. As such, I’m subjectively involved in every conversation. Paradoxically, I believe this makes me more objective.  Self awareness is 90% of life for me. We provide options and state our beliefs when it is appropriate.

Q: Is there good communication? How will I know if I’m being understood?
A: Checking in with people periodically and having interactive conversations seeking to clarify objectives are critical to the long term success of the relationships we seek and desire.

Q: Will Pat discuss both pros and cons of recommendations?
A: We believe discussing both pros and cons of recommendations.

Q: Will Pat push me to implement recommendations?
A: Yes, I will follow up as needed and as agreed until the recommendation is implemented or declined. But, only on the schedule to which we agree.

Q: May I have references?
A: References will be provided upon request.

Q: What kind of post engagement support should I expect?
A: We will meet regularly to stay up to date. Our team of in office and in the field service providers will provide excellent service, ideally, for a long term relationship.

Q: Will I know something about the people who serve me?
A: My personal story can be mildly entertaining. However, the lives of our clients are usually very interesting. You can know as little or as much about us as you like.

Q: What if I’m not satisfied?
A: We are a good fit for many people, but not everyone. If it’s not a fit, there are almost 8,000 Northwestern Mutual reps to choose from or, of course, other firms.

Q: Why should I do business with you?
A: Our clients feel understood. They feel we care/are friends. They value the financial strength of Northwestern Mutual, execution and post sale service. One of the best compliment we received came from a man who didn’t suffer fools, “thank you for doing what you said you would do for me and my family. You did right by us”.
